Transitions are a natural part of life.
We all go through many.
Some related to the passing of years,
others to life changing situations.
At times we’re in a hurry to get to the next stage,
other times we’re clinging to the one we’re in,
afraid to let go.
An analogy I once read compared transitions
to that moment when a trapeze artist is in midair,
between two bars.
“The past is gone, the future is not yet here.”
In our action oriented culture
this transition zone is looked upon as a
“no-thing” and “no-place”
something to be passed through as quickly as possible.
Having experienced this “no-place” several times in my life,
I can attest it’s an uncomfortable place to be.
I felt compelled to move on as quickly as possible,
fearing any “downtime” would be wasted time.
How I wish I knew differently.
Now, with the wisdom of years lived,
I’m finally realizing this time between life stages,
this downtime, is a precious “me-time.”
When you find yourself in one of life’s inevitable transitions –
in between jobs, careers, moves, partners, life stages…
rather than resisting and rushing
through this “no-thing” and “no-place,”
relish this time.
Transitions are opportunities
for growth, new possibilities and new dreams.
