Dinah’s NUGGETS

Beingness Vs. Doingness

April 6, 2017

For nearly all my life I’ve been totally focused on ‘doingness’:
taking action, accomplishing goals, productivity.
I didn’t give any thought to the concept of ‘beingness.’
Truthfully, I didn’t know exactly what beingness meant.
What do you do to be? There’s an oxymoron question…

Since my move back from Beijing in 2010, I’ve spent more time
learning about what beingness means and exploring my own beingness.
In the past few years my desire has been and is,
to focus more on ‘being’ and less on ‘doing.’
Easier said than done – in other words, easier to do than to be!
Old habits, ways of thinking and beliefs die hard and
I still find myself feeling guilty for not doing more.

How can I simply and happily let the days go by,
filled with whatever life calls me to do,
including joyfully spending time with my little granddaughter,
and not be doing all that I ‘should’ be doing?
There’s that word should, which I’ve lived with much of my life.
Especially, “I should get all my work done before I play”!
I posted about this in a private Facebook page and one person responded that,
at this moment, I’m like a seed under the ground and waiting to sprout…
so, patience.
Another person mentioned a spiritual teacher of his talks about waiting…
and my beingness is similar to that waiting…again, patience.
And yes, I do need to practice patience.

Author Anita Moorjani, “Dying To Be Me” (I highly recommend this), says:
“I suggest not coming up with goals altogether
and seeing what the Universe delivers.”
This resonates with me! Sounds like being present, being in the moment,
and listening for one’s inner guidance, then taking inspired action.
Don’t let your doingness overwhelm your beingness.
First be, then do.

"The future belongs to those who believe
in the beauty of their dreams.”
