“Age is mind over matter -if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
For years, though I truly believed the above quote,
I was unwilling to let anyone know my age.
That’s a contradiction, right?
And, when we live with a contradiction, we feel conflicted.
No one, not even my children or my closest friends knew my exact age.
Every birthday, I’d go through an agonizing internal debate, “should I or shouldn’t I?”
Finally, with a threshold birthday looming before me,
I made the momentous decision to come out with my age.
I told the world I was turning 70! That was five years ago.
Yes, on January 26, 2017, I’ll be 75 (Hooray!).
I’ve gone from hiding my age to embracing my age.
That’s progress! What a blessing to live these many years.
What a journey it’s been, and continues to be.
As for mind over matter, aside from my annual debate with myself,
the other 51 weeks of the year I gave no thought to my age.
I believe it is this mindset and attitude which has helped me to stay young,
feel young and be young at heart.
I’d like to leave you with these few thoughts:
What counts is not our chronological age which is just a number.
What counts is how much life we’re putting into our living,
how alive and vibrant we feel.
What counts is whether we are following and living our dream.
You can take it from me, it’s never too late!
